Hear from Fresno Poet Laureate Emeritus (2015-2017) Lee Herrick, whose two-year term recently ended. He will speak about his experiences, from his appointment by former Mayor Ashley Swearengin, to coaching high school students for the National Poetry Out Loud competition, reading across the United States, to reading at Valley State Prison. Herrick will read some of his poems, and a short Q and A will follow.

Lee Herrick is the author of two books, Gardening Secrets of the Dead and This Many Miles from Desire. He recently completed a two-year term as Fresno Poet Laureate and serves on the advisory board of The Adoption Museum Project. His poems have appeared in many literary magazines, anthologies, and college textbooks, including The Bloomsbury Review, Columbia Poetry Review, Highway 99: A Literary Journey Through California’s Great Central Valley, 2nd edition, Indivisible: Poems of Social Justice, and Visions Across the Americas, 8th edition, among others, and in books alongside John Steinbeck, Maya Angelou, and William Shakespeare. Born in Daejeon, South Korea and adopted at ten months, he lives in Fresno, California and teaches at Fresno City College and in the MFA Program at Sierra Nevada College.
